Every strong piece of writing has a voice worth protecting. Editing is not about rewriting; it is about listening closely to the writer’s intent. I work collaboratively with the author to sharpen language, improve readability, and ensure the final piece reflects the their voice with confidence and accuracy.
To assist in the writing process, I offer the following services:
- Developmental/Structural Editing, which encompasses the overarching need of the manuscript/document , i.e., plot, tone, style, where the different pieces of information fit together, etc.
- Proofreading, which takes place right before the manuscript/document goes into print/is published. Proofreading covers the layout, style, headings, page numbers, tables, captions, and illustrations. This is a final read-thru.
- Copy Editing, which begins the process of taking the raw manuscript/document and refining it. This focuses on typos, grammar, punctuation, and consistency.
- Line Editing, which looks at the manuscript/document at the micro level; looking at each sentence, word choice, phrasing, writing style, flow, and readability.
I am open to working with any genre, though I specialize primarily in non-fiction, specifically History, Martial Arts, Religion, Music, Memoir/Autobiography, Instructional, and Biography.
